José Ignacio Quintón (1881-1925)
Clasical and popular composer and piano player. Mostly known for his danzas, Mi estrella (playing in the background right now), El Coquí and many others . Born in Caguas February 1st, 1881. His family moved to Coamo before he was two years old. Jose Ignacio "Pepito" Quintón was educated mostly by his father, Juan (Musiú) Quintón, an organ player and music teacher who graduated from the Conservatory of Music of Paris. He was also largely self-taught. He composed many classical works, as well as waltzes , danzas, etc. and was also a well known pianist and director. Pepito contributed greately to the musical culture of Coamo, were he lived most of his life and composed all his works. When his father died, he took over as the catholic church's organ player, and the town's music teacher. He died on December 19, 1925.
